I don't know who PU was, but did anyone see him try to ring up Pujols with only two strikes? Classic! (BTW, I tried the same thing my sixth FED game this season.)

Hey....did you also see he scratched his back after the 5th inning.....apparently this is what this board has become.....

(But anyway, no I didn't see it, but it sounds like one of those classic Bob Engel on TWIB moments)

mattmets missed the point .....

It's about mechanics, timing, you know (or maybe not), all of the things umpires do to call a game in a professional manner. I expect those of us with a level of experience commensurate with mine to do something boneheaded like that. But for an experienced MLB umpire to lose the count, while it may not be completely inexcusable, it is definitely funny.

No I knew what you meant....was there a stolen base or a wild pitch in the at-bat prior to the 2nd strike that may have distracted him? Or did Bruce Dreckman just lose the count?

Shouldn't happen, but it does, and I'm sure he had a laugh about it after the game....

he had a laugh then!!

Don't remember any previous play, but the center-field camera zoomed in close. You couldn't see Dreckman's face clearly through his mask, but you could make out that he was smiling broadly....

Maybe he's one of those modern fellows who eschews the indicator.

Probably looked at one of those nice decorations in the stadium. You know that thing called a scoreboard.
