Head SHOTS, Hockey or traditional mask?

mrm21711 had commented on another thread that, "professional umpire Rick Reed was hit in the head with a foul ball and left the game last week. He was replaced by Brian Knight." mrm21711 provided the following link.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slu...v=ap&type=lgns

I also saw an umpire take one on the noggin during the late innings of the Cubs-White Sox series in mid-June. Would anyone care to could provide details/commentary/follow-up on either event?

Any more PRO Head SHOT stories out there? For some strange reason, I seem to find reading about this subject interesting. Perhaps its my love for baseball, my subconcious fear of the violent nature of that event, and the fact that I find myself entertained by "some other DEER caught in the head lights." Am I normal?

PLAY FAIR! LL to NCAA Head SHOT stories are also welcome.

Is it just me or is this a very bizzare, morbid question? We've all been hit in the head, some of us very seriously. Is there any more to say?

No, you are not normal. You are very weird. Serioulsy, you are.

Why do you have some sort of fetish for hearing about guys getting hit in the face with baseballs?

No, that information is not correct, Reed was replaced by Ted Barrett, the second base umpire. Any that is also misquoted. What story would call an MLB umpire a "professional"? The actual story states that "home plate umpire Rick Reed", not "professional umpire Rick Reed"

Play fair? I don't get it. Thats not even a baseball term. I'm sorry to waste everyone's time calling MORE attention to this post, but the more I read it, the more strange it seems to me.

*sigh*

Red face Bannished

Thanks John S. for bailing me out! I am enjoying the new thread. Another wonderful topic full of opinions, errors and omissions. Just as entertaining as last months, and sure to be repeated again next month.

Tactfully, I will trie-y to handle those weird and squeamish quotation marks more accurately. LeftyRef's cap rulez were so bold, i(had)-ta-lic it. "But" that explanation "leftout" an unreported "PRO" substitution. And now, I am too scared to discuss it any further.

rick reed replacement

dear lefty and mrm
this imfo is incorrect, rick was replaced by brian knight at the time of injury. then brian was replace by chad fairchild. now chad has been replaced by kevin kelly.
terry craft is filling in as crew chief and the union is trying some different guys out.
just wanted the imfo to be correct before any rumors start.

Arrow Play fair? I don't get it?

You may need PRACTICE, but don't mess with a good sport. Standard purchase list:

Binoculars for the stands, shades for the field, media subscriptions for mags, radio and TV, a magnifying glass for those books, and contacts for that BANGER.

Uniforms, protective equip., clinics, radio w/earplugz, Comm equip to instant replay official/supervisor

Supervisors, coaches and TDs (city state and national)

School and league officials, parents, kidz, kidz rep,

Ump org., attorney, insurance, partnerze behind YOU

Ability to see only the BEST advice or to eject BAD quickly, and luck it doesn't rain mistakes on YOU

Freedom to give and take insults, no make it take and take

Meds to clear it all up for YOU (HS level and below only)
