1st inning drama.
What a series of events to start a game, huh? Anyone see it? I think they got it right even though they blew both calls! They got an out while satisfying both coaches. Oh the luxury of instant replay for us couch umps! Great job Blue!

2nd base ump blew it
R1 and BR hits ball to 1st base, he bobbles the ball and picks the ball up off the ground, thinking he had his foot on the bad still he throws the ball to the second. 2nd base ump is on top of the play and see no tag on the R1 so he calls him safe. Now R1 and R2.
Discussion between umpires and 1st base ump did not change his mind and kept the runner on 1st. Since he did not get him out the force was still on at 2nd. So the 2nd base ump calls the runner out at second, not because he tagged him but now because it was a force out. In my opionion on the replay the shortstop foot was not even on the bag for the force since he was trying for a sweeping tag. I guess he was close enough for the big league though. |

Tschida was at 1B & Iassogna was at 2B. Tschida emphatically called the runner safe at 1B, but Iassogna then called the runner safe at 2B initially. He made the mistake of not waiting for Tschida's call, because the SS was not on 2B. Honestly, Iassogna missed the call but did a great job behind the plate on Monday night so....
