In my area there is Little League and Pony. Most play Pony Rules with local variations when they are playing in town. Such as free substitution and continous batting orders. When "All Star Teams" (these ar in town All Star Teams) are picked the various tournaments may play using Pony Rules or they may have free substitution and continous batting orders. As a past board member I can tell you that most parents want the season to end no latter than the Fourth of July mainly for family vacations etc. If a kid wants to play through the end of July (regardless of his ability although he can't be a total klutz) there are numerous fulltime travel teams that he can join that play 85 to 100 games over the course of the season. I'm not exagerrating.
Unfortunately rarely if ever do you see "pick up games" being played. Once the season is over the baseball diamonds are deserted. It seems that unless it's organized by adults the kids would rather be at the mall or playing video games. You know what they say "youth is wasted on the young."
