I was recently told that 9 AAA umps have resigned due to MLB naming the 8 or 9 previously resigned MLB umps as the first to be hired back to. I know one of them was Steve Cox of the PCL. He has accepted an evaluators position. Anybody know who the others were and what they are planning on doing?

I am probably wrong . . .
. . . but, there are only three ex-MLB guys on the list.
No. Umpire 70 Armendariz, Ramon 86 Aschwege, Dave 67 Barksdale, Lance 61 Davidson, Bob 81 Dellinger, Dusty 93 Dowdy, Adam 82 Drake, Rob 79 Durfee, Peter 75 Fairchild, Chad 80 Fichter, Mike 85 Fullwood, Troy 68 Guccione, Chris 62 Hallion, Tom 64 Hickox, Ed 92 Hoye, James 87 Kelley, Kevin 91 Knight, Brian 73 Moser, Casey 76 Muchlinski, Mike 74 Reininger, Travis 89 Samuels, Jack Ed Hickox, "Balk A Day" Bob Davidson, and Tom Hallion are 1999 Guys. I do not know who the other six guys would be. Also we see guys that have worked "fill-in" at the MLB level: Lance Barksdale,Rob Drake, and Mike Fichter all have many, many games in this area. Again, as noted in other threads MiLB releases AAA umpires every year and the other names change. |

You are only considering the former ML guys who started over and worked their way back to the AAA level. In addition, I could be mistaken, but I believe I remember that, as part of some settlements, some "resigned/fired" umpires who did not start over have been told they will get jobs when openings come up.

Garth,
I am aware of the statement but there has been little information to confirm that rumor.
There are a few guys left that "could" come back if the system opened up to them. Others have taken the retirement package. ALSO, there was a rumor thread on this site that said as many as 15 umpires would take some type of a retirement package this year -- I have not seen ANY umpire retire to take some kind of offer. Thank for the info. |

I know they don't care...but I'm sure some of us might be interested to see who takes it.

From what I was told earlier this week, Hickox, Davidson, and Hallion were told that they would be guaranteed jobs before anyone else.
It'll be "fun" to see Balkin' Bob Davidson back, won't it? |

Hickox, Hallion, and Davidson will all be working in the big leagues this year, probably somewhere around 100+ games, however they won't actually be on a set crew. They will work similar to the AAA guys like Guccione, Fichter, Barksdale, etc. who are always up. This has obviously not made some AAA guys very happy as their chance at getting a shot has just been diminished by these three guys taking their place. I do not believe that 9 umpires have resigned as of yet.
