Unhappy

For discussion, and soliciting opinions, and proper "mechanics".

Random ball and strike sniping coming from one dugout.

There's 20+ players in uniform, some not in uniform, and 6 coaches crowded in there. It is not possible to ascertain WHO is the source.

At appropriate time: PU announced clearly to bench: That's enough, no comments on balls and strikes, etc etc.

Next instance:

Q1? Better to announce AGAIN, using specific WARNING languague, to the bench in general? Or go specifically to Manager and announce warning?

Nest instance:

Who goes?

The kid holding the scorebook? A player selected at random?, the cleanup hitter?. A coach?

ASSUME that BU cannot help you determine offender.

First warning to manager/coach.

Continued sniping..manager/coach goes.

"You're in control of your dugout. If you casn't, you're responsible. Who is now in charge?"

Not sure what level we're talking here, but HS & below, the not-in-uniform "players" are entirely unneeded; and in ANY youth/ rec league game, 6 coaches is at least 3 too many. Dump the surplus en masse; and let the manager know that if he can't get a handle on things, he's next.

Pull your line up card out (doesn't matter if the team is batting or on defense) Coach I have a question can I have a moment of your time. When you do this only you and he are privy to the conversation. Simply tell him. Coach I've had enough of the talk from the dugout. Get control of your bench please. I don't know who the bench jockey is but, if it doesn't stop immediately I'll be forced to eject someone. You've just told him in a round about way that you will pick someone out at random This schould take care of the problem.

If you have to, pick someone out and eject him if it continues. Just don't eject your catcher especially if he's a good one.

Who goes?

This is why God made assistant coaches. Pick one and send him to the bus.

Personally, I would have a nice quiet talk with the coach....over a "lineup issue" and let him know that either he gets his dugout under control or someone is going.
Assistant coaches are great, but so are those top gun pitchers or hitters he has, hint hint.
