world series umps
I think that the six umpires for the 2004 World Series might be (not necessarily in rotation order):
Ed Montague, Brian Gorman, Wally Bell, Gerry Davis, Charlie Reliford, Tim McClelland |

In the past I've done what you described, anticipating the play. I can't imagine a Major League Umpire doing that. These guys are too good. That is an extremely fundamental mistake in mechanics. If you saw that play without benefit of slo-mo it was a banger.

You need to read my article from yesterday about close plays. I did not see the replay, but perhaps the call was within the human margin of error. In that case, Gerry did not blow it. You will have to pay to find out what this is all about. :D Peter |
...margin of human error?
Did Eric Redfern's name come up in the discussion? |
If you are looking for info about what Umps are working where, you can go to worldumpires.com. Sometimes it takes awhile but they get those things on there eventually.

It is possible that Gerry may have blinked or for some other reason he was not 100% sure so he probably went by the old addage that if it is a banger and your are not sure then who earned the call? Defense makes a good play, Out. Defense bobbled the ball, safe.
As far as saying an officail blew a call, nothing wrong with it. I have said it and I have blown some calls. No one is perfect and blowing a call is just saying he missed it. Now if you say he blew it and you are saying that because you don't have a clue what the right call or proper way of handling it is, then you are flat wrong for saying anything. |

Last week I saw that you were back. Congratulations. I hope that you didn't have to pucker up too much. ;) With your return, the return of Rich and Blaine and the reactivation of Tim, the bar has been raised. Let's hope everyone is up to it. |
McClelland
I'm suprised to see no McClelland in the W.S crew. He has the best game management in the league.
