I noticed something while watching a lot of MLB games, was wondering if anybody out there knew what it was.

I have noticed a lot of umpires wearing a Wilson chest protector that is very thin and gray, with a very large yellow W directly on the top of it (under the neck), but is not a protector that Wilson sells. Does anybody know what this is? I have noticed a ton of guys wearing this one (Froemming, Timmons, Marquez, Barksdale, ect.) Thanks.

No. The westvest gold is black. The westvest platinum in grey. But neither is "thin."

Yes you are right. The plastic appears thin on top of the padding. Unless there is a new product not previously discussed, it still sounds like it is a West Vest.

I use the gray Wilson version of the West Vest, and have for about 4 years. I like it very much because the plates are riveted, not fastened with velcro, which I never liked.

It could be an old Power by Riddell with a Gold/Wilson "W" place over the "Power" emblem. I think Wilson has a contract with MLB Umpires and the only advertising allowed on masks and chest protectors is Wilson. I'm not sure - just guessing since I've seen no other brand advertising on MLB umpires this year. In fact, it looks like some of them have had to cover logos from other manufactures

MLB Umpires do an awesome job doing their job. They probably have the best jobs in America!

I am good friends with 2 of them and they have an unbelievable travel schedule. They see the biggest cities,
know where to eat, get your haircut, etc.

Kudos to the men in blue!!!!
