Wow that is quite the story. You would think that they could have gotten that sub ump a fitted hat though.

I know, I also noticed the adjustable hat. There wasn't much time to deal with, I can see why he didn't get a fitted hat. On the other hand, I would think that I would be able to buy a fitted hat from a store at the stadium.

If a team was unable to make a game because of travel delays, I would only assume that it would be made up.

One of the other umpires, Scott Graham, did the CWS this year, and then retired. Not a bad way to come out of retirement, huh?

Why did they take them out in the middle of the second inning? Were they THAT worried about umping quality?

And besides, I remember a rule that says the plate ump stays until the end of the game unless he's injured. Or maybe in this case he did, being one of the regulars (albeit a "rookie").

Actually, the rule says NO umpire shall be replaced during a game. However, MLB wants MLB umps. Obviously, this was an emergency, and emergency procedures were used.

Beisdes, if a rule is ignored, it is up to one team or the other to protest. Who in their right mind is going to protest that the MLB umps were being returned to the game?

Hmmm,

"Who in their right mind is going to protest that the MLB umps were being returned to the game?"

I don't know but Bobby Cox and Larry Bowa come to mind real fast.
