What is "OBR" ..."FED"...

I am a brand new umpire in LLB. I will be umpiring in majors division starting next season. I have ump'ed about 12 games in the minor division this year. We use the "green book" as our rule book.

I see alot of references to OBR and FED on this forum. Can anyone explain to me what these references are, and when or at what level of play they are for?

I have intentions of joining a local association and eventually working at high school level games within 2 years...I am studying the game and basic rules at present.

Fed = National Federation of State High School Associations

FED is used for most states for high school ball.

OBR, with some modifications is played by most youth leagues (ie Babe Ruth, LL, etc.).

I would suggest buying an Offical Baseball Rules Book. But if you are cheap like me, it is online. http://www.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/of...s/foreword.jsp

You can even copy that into word, and print it out, and put it in a binder. No need to spend $10 on the book.

I cut yellow #2 pencils in half to avoid buying bullit pencils or 85 cents. I buy rule books.
