FED Rules with Courtesy Runner speed-up rule.
Home team pinch hits for the pitcher. The home coach then asks to put in a courtesy runner for the pinch hitter. I told the umpire that I didn't think this should be allowed and he informed me that the pinch hitter had been designated as the new pitcher so they could use a courtesy runner. Please tell me this is not true. If it is, what is to keep a coach from using three consecutive pinch hitters and using a courtesy runner for each by designating the first two the new pitcher and catcher and then later telling the umpire that he changed his mind and the third pinch hitter will now be the pitcher or catcher.
Rule references would be greatly appreciated.
