Gear? Chest Protector

so i have used a very thin/lightweight chest protector for years. And usually i just umpire 10u so it's not terribly bad. Lately i have been umpiring more Legion and High school games, and the other umpire the other day said im gunna die from a collar bone hit (slightly dramatic).

Well there are 100s of chest protectors. The MLB guys say use West Vest Gold.. but i dont need MLB style (i mean, i guess i DO,, but c'mon).

What do y'all wear and do you have any pros/cons about it? I found the below one, seems fine.. they all "cover the chest" so i dont know what the big differences in them are except for comfort maybe?

You don't need to pay that much. Go here for a large selection. Great customer service, fast delivery & follow-up contact available just to make sure you are completely satisfied. (I was)!
Good luck.

Another, great source for gear and information is Ump-Attire, which has this chest protector buying guide: http://www.ump-attire.com/Buyers-Gui...s-Buying-Guide

I've had everything over the years -- an original WV (1996 after a collarbone hit), a WV Gold, a WV Plat, a Riddell Power (that I used for years), and original Force 3. I've sold or given away everything now except the Force 3, which I will give away at some point.

I bought the Douglas recently and it's my daily driver. Not cheap, but considering you get paid to umpire and you are only going to buy one of these and it will last years, get the one you think will work best for you.

Pros on the Douglas - very lightweight, hard shell, good protection.

Cons - it's not cheap. Again, it's a one time purchase. Don't skimp here.

Douglas WV. I’ve had it for years, taken numerous shots with it, and never regretted paying the price.

My go to at the moment. Breathes in the summer and takes anything thrown at it. I do high school and high level travel ball.
