(Not a football official here)
Northwestern vs PSU. 4:30 to go in 2nd Qtr. Play near the sideline and the Linesman loses his balance trying to avoid the players coming toward him and apparently "ruptures his Quad Tendon." He's done for the day. The announcers say they are going to play and "official down." True? How do you rearrange the officials? Is there a set procedure/rotation? Thanks.

Unless there is an alternate, then most will switch over to six man mechanics. Who goes where depends on who went down. If its the R, then the senior crew member normally would go to R. Other positions will depend on who has experience at that position. If its the BJ, then your deep wings will just move in.

There was an alternate who came in and worked the rest of the game (although he had the 'H' placard on his uniform).
I hope the original line judge is OK and I hope he is able to come back to the field soon....

Probably done for the season. Happened to one of our guys last season working U in a D1AA game the opening week. He got run over by an RB and detached the quad. Had surgery the following morning.
I hauled him around as an evaluator to several of my game after that. He recovered quicker than I thought for a man in his 60's. He's back at again this fall. |
