state associations

I have been officiating for 25 yrs and our state officials association is ran by our states high school association. All events, pay structure, trny selection, dues & etc are conducted by the high schools. I have no idea if the majority of states are done this way or not. Several regions have recently discussed breaking away from the high school association and having our own separate entity. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.
