Earrings ??? Tape Over Earrings ???

With nothing else on summer television, I've been watching some WNBA action (and to check out some cute players).

I hope that next year's high school players aren't watching a lot of WNBA games.

I checked out the WNBA rules.

Earrings? Tape over earrings?

Neither are allowed.

I guess that the WNBA has some apathetic officials just like we have in some apathetic officials in our high school games.

The problem with your statement is that WNBA officials are employees of the NBA.
They do what their employers tell them to do...or not to do.

It's not like college or high school basketball where referees are working for different supervisors on different nights for different organizations.

WNBA referees get fined if they do not enforce what the WNBA wants them to enforce.

I'm not familiar with the rules, but there appears to be no rhyme or reason with undershirt color restrictions in the NBA or WNBA.

It might have something to do wth medical support or compression guidelines or team approved accessories.

I've don't believe that I've ever observed earrings or taped earrings on an NCAA-M or NCAA-W player.

This is the first year that I have seen WNBA Players wearing earrings and covering them with tape which surprised me to see. I will put out a feeler or two to friends that I know that can possibly shed more light on this situation.

If the WNBA wanted it enforced, it would be enforced. All the referees are on the same page.

Based on clips I've seen, FIBA appears to allow adult women to wear jewelry at its highest levels (Women's Eurobasket) because I've seen clips showing players having all sorts of tape covering jewelry on their ears and noses.

My best observer's guess is jewelry being allowed at the higher levels because all the participants are adults and presumed to know best how to mitigate any risk with whatever jewelry of choice they don't remove prior to events.

If there's not a rule change per se, perhaps the new CBA passed prior to the 2026 season now allows WNBA players that same luxury.
