IAABO Sportorials Magazine ...

Here are some other tidbits from the latest issue of IAABO Sportorials magazine (that I have not already broached in a separate Forum thread).

Postseason Replay: Revises the wording governing state-association adoption of limited replay-monitor use from “state championship series contests” to “postseason tournament contests.”

Airborne Shooter: A player hanging on the ring after a dunk attempt is not considered an airborne shooter.

Basket Interference: Basket interference occurs when a player slaps or strikes the backboard, causing the backboard or ring to vibrate during a try for goal that has the possibility of entering the basket. NOTE: If the try is successful, officials should ignore the violation and allow play to continue. The clarification establishes that the ball does not need to be on or within the basket or touching the backboard. It also prevents points from being awarded on a try with no chance of entering the basket and guides rulings when vibration of the back board, ring or net does not affect the try.

Goaltending: This change simplifies the rule when the ball touches the backboard. A defensive player who touches the ball after it contacts the backboard during a try or tap that has a possibility of entering the basket has committed goaltending. Whether the ball is on its upward flight, at its peak or on its downward flight is no longer relevant.

Jump-Ball Administration: When the tossing official enters the restraining circle, it is a violation for any nonjumper(s) to move onto the center restraining circle (within three feet) or change positions around it. This provides a clear point at which jump-ball restrictions begin.

When a throw-in violation occurs during a division-line throw-in opposite the table, the resulting throw-in remains at the division line opposite the table. This is one of the rare instances in which a violation does not result in the ensuing throw-in being administered at one of the eight designated spots.

If you're not going to move throw-ins from the division line after a throw in violation...

That's what IAABO says.

Logic tells us that a Throw-in at the division line IS NOT in the Front Court nor the Back Court. Thus if there is a violation during the Throw-in, then which 28' mark would you move it to? The answer is neither. It stays at the division line.
The only time you have a division line Throw-in is the beginning of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th quarters and after a Technical foul.

1) Disagree The division line is in the BC of both teams

2) What if the ball goes OOB right at the division line?[/COLOR]

Further, If you aren't going to move a throw-in that was originally at the division line, why are you moving any throw-in when there's a throw-in violation? (which, I think, was Raymond's point)

What if the ball goes out of bounds at the division line table side?

Maybe IAABO, and possibly the NFHS, just want this enforced to start periods and after technical fouls?

If so, why don't they just come out and say it?

So, Team A has a 'Division line throw-in after a Technical foul or to begin the 2nd, 3rd or 4th quarter. Team A commits a Throw-in violation. Am I understanding you want to move the Throw-in to Team B's 28' mark in their Back Court?

It would be consistent with the other throw-in rules (as I understand them; recognizing that the details aren't all out yet). That said, I will administer the rule the way the NFHS tellsus to when the details do come out.

Play:
A1 from her frontcourt, passes the ball to A2. A2 loses track of her position on the court and is standing with one foot on the intersection of the division line and the sideline.

A) This is an OOB violation and B inbounds adjacent to the division line.

B) This is a BC violation and B inbounds from the neares 28' mark in their FC.

C) Coach B gets to choose whether to inbound from A or B.

D) B gets to "run the sideline" between A and B

E) Who cares, because most officials won't even think of any location issues?

F) Other

It was. I knew it would go over Billy's head...LOL

As far as the division line, yes, it is part of each team's back court.

However, throw ins are neither front court or back court. They are adjacent to the front court or back court. A throw in from the division line is adjacent to neither or to both. I'm assuming that's the logic they are using.

Heads up, but that's not a video of a play above this post. So if you can't see it don't worry about it.

Billy, I met your interpreters. I have known one of them for a year now. If you do not talk to them about this, that is kind of on you. She seems rather educated on all the subjects. She is my spirit interpreter; love her. So if you are struggling with this, you are not asking the right questions, my friend.

Peace
