The only injury I have suffered in 20 years of umping was 10 years ago - a broken little toe on my left foot in the first inning of the first game of a DH. Up in the slot, foul ball, WHAM! Even with plate shoes the toe broke. Doctor said, "Nothing we can do, put up with the pain and in a few weeks it will heal-if you don't get hit again!" I umped through it, and it wasn't fun. Two months later I was 100% again. That's 20 years of 60 plate jobs and 60 base jobs a year. I've been hit by batted balls twice - both times in the "C" position (middle of the infield), and the one hop shot hit the curve of the mound and "followed" me. Once in the hip and once inside the thigh, but no injury to anything other than my "cat-like" pride...
