I wondered about the same thing. I noticed he had a number on his shirt as well (I think it was 6).
Made me wonder if all of the umpires at the regional were numbered, but I don't recall seeing numbers on anyone else.
The umpires for the Southwestern final all wore the same color. I personally like that look better, although I do like the red shirts...........
