I did the stickers once and found them much easier to deal with, though I experienced the "sweat failure" on the shirt late in the camp. I would agree....go with the shorts if you can.
Best company if you're looking for stock is "Gill." Primarily a track-and-field supplier, they are used to making good adhesive stickers that stick nicely to nylon/polyester running shorts. Works just as well at basketball camps.
If you do have to go with pin-on numbers, you'll want something that's plastic-coated, kind of like a road race bib number. Otherwise it will most certainly "sweat fail" after a game or two.
