By the way, ref81, some of these posts remind me of another bit of advice: there is no substitute for trying things on, if you can, especially if you have a somewhat odd build, wide feet, or other, similar issues with clothing and shoes.
There is a local shop (All Sports) near me that has a tailor on site. He'll hem pants and sew patches, all while you wait. Can't be beat.
