+1. Coaches and the crowd won't like it, but not that long ago this was even a point of emphasis. Ya gotta call it unless they both get to the spot they're going for at exactly the same time.

Kind of like a cornerback who times his defense on a pass. If you're just a little off (early), you're liable for defensive pass interference. It's a risk you accept. So, too, is the situation for a player diving for a loose ball; the hustle is to be commended, but if you get there second....foul.
