I think that the lack of punctuation is confusing some people.
I'm reading this:
"...ball goes in dead territory, ump awards batter third base coach argues..."
as:
"...ball goes in dead territory. Ump awards batter third base. Coach argues..."
It's not the "third base coach" that's arguing.
