Let me add that there is more to it than "your wishes". You should demonstrate through actions and dress that you are ready and deserve to represent your local association at that level.

I've run into too many people who sat back and whined about not having the opportunity to work that level only to answer "huh?" when asked what national school or higher level clinic they have attended, or other level of championship play they have been qualified to work.

In today's world, there is a demand for bodies, but I would never send anyone of whom I was not confident would represent the association and fellow umpires well. Unfortunately, that level of integrity isn't always present in some assignments.
