Truth is, we are constantly talking to players: hands off, straight up, don't reach, watch your feet, ease up, and a lot of other things we say to let players know what is expected of them. In addition, not calling fouls when they occur is doing a disservice to everyone. It makes things worse, not better.

The longer I've officiated the less I talk to players. I may warn here and there, but there is no better lesson than the whistle. Some guys talk to damn much, and are pretty much a coach on the floor. I try not to work with them.
