There is one rec league that I worked for a couple years, in which there were a lot of jerks -- parents, coaches, players. It was good for me to work it for a while but when my time got full of other games, I didn't feel bad about dropping it. But I learned a lot, and it was valuable experience. I suggest you get one of those more experienced refs that can handle this stuff, I think you said there were a couple, and work only with them. Tell them you want suggestions of how you could be more like them. Absorb. It'll pay huge dividends in the long run, I think.
