Wow, and I thought that Mark and I were old! Way back in the 60's, when I played HS, to touch the floor with the ball was considered to be a dribble. So, if the ballhandler ended his dribble, and then while holding the ball, touched the ball to the floor, it was a double dribble. Or, if the ballhandler held the ball and touched the ball to the floor twice, you guessed it, that was considered to be a double dribble. Or, if the ballhandler touched the floor with the ball, and then started a conventional dribble, that was also a violation.
So, in your meeting, you must have had some very old officials, who don't read . . .
