I guess you gotta blame Ron Garretson and Jason Philips.

And yes, they get compounded time-and-a-half for each OT. So 48 + (1.5(5))^3 = 469.875 minutes of pay. We all know NBE refs are paid by the minute, so that's nearly 10 regulation games worth of pay.
