Trick OOB Play

Yesterday, during my 8th grade boys game, Home Coach tries to run the trick play where he tells someone else to take the ball out after the spot throw-in starts, in hops that the defense will freeze long enough for an easy basket. Well, the players didn't execute it properly and just threw the ball inbounds right away.

It did get me to thinking, though, what if A2 stepped out of bounds next to A1 as if the former was going to take over throwing the ball inbounds? Would that be an immediate violation of 9-3-3 (Leaving the court for an unauthorized reason), or would it be a violation only if A1 passed or handed the ball to A2 standing OOB--similar to case play 9.2.9?

On a side note, my partner was someone who I've seen officiate number of times while I was still a statistician. He was impressed with how much I've improved since he last saw me a year ago at a scrimmage for rookie and second-year officials.
