David, my friend. Lighten up. It's typical over here to resent any "ruling world body" that represents their rules are the "world rules" in a sport that we feel has the best leagues in the world here in America. This includes basketball. We don't have that same feeling about soccer (football) because it is not our game, and the best players and leagues in the world are outside our country. Besides, that game didn't originate here like basketball did.
The Olympics, which is another international organization, really has no choice but to use FIBA rules in competition, since the vast majority of participating nations use those rules. We understand that. But our feeling is that we resent some "foreigners" proposing that "their rules" are "better" than our rules, when we feel no one knows that game like we do.
It's just our jingoism coming through. There's no real anger, only joking - like calling FIBA "FEEBLE".
