It's the passage that Robert Redford cites, while an aging Norman is fishing alone in the final scene in the movie. Pretty deep stuff.

I haven't read the book. But I don't see how it could be as good as The River Why by David James Duncan. But then, I'm not a fishing person, so I can't compare them to real life. Tangentially, The Brothers K by the same author is an incredible book. Fabulous baseball story. Almost enough to make me understand baseball.
