Last night after a set of rec games, a few of us were sitting in the umpire room and started telling stories about *uninformed* parents and coaches that want to argue rules and ask dumb questions. This was the best story:
12u rec league, single umpire game, defensive coach thought his only job was to say something every time a call went against his team. Of course, he had no clue as to the correct rulings.
Pitch is thrown, RH batter checks her swing, umpire calls "ball". The next words out of the defensive coaches mouth - "Go for help on that, Blue"
Umpire has about had enough of this guy, so he takes off his mask, steps out from behind the plate, points at the first base coach and yells "DID SHE GO?" fully expecting the first base coach to say no.
The first base coach, without missing a beat, yells back "YES, SHE DID!"
My buddy was dumbfounded for a minute, then said OK and changed it to a strike. It took the first base coach a few minutes to realize what he had just done!
We were rolling on the floor at this one. I can't wait to try this sometime!
