Until it happened this weekend at NQ, I never realized how "
lenient" ASA is on Unreported Substitutes.
#31 was starter and was substituted by #7 in the prior inning to play defense.
#31 is now at bat with a 2-1 count, but was not reported.
Defense appeals.
Of course, the answer is, #31 is now in the game and assumes the 2-1 count.
There is only a small window of time for any penalty to be applied to an Unreported Substitute, i.e. after completing a turn at bat and before the next pitch, legal or illegal, is thrown.
