According to "The Oregonian" newspaper, today (Jan. 15) is the 111th anniversary of the day Dr. Naismith published the original rules of basketball. In the paper's humor column, it said "And officials in NBA games have been ignoring them ever since (unless the original rules allowed certain players to go, oh, a half-dozen steps without dribbling, in which case they've done a great job).
I think the column writer hit it right on the head.
Any of you throwing an anniversary party tonight?
