Had my second game tonight --girls freshmen game.
My partner showed up early so we got to talk before the game. She is relatively new and surprised to hear I was a 1 game veteran.

So, we agreed foremost communication was going to be key. She thought she had officiated one of the teams and the game was physical, so we agreed we needed to address any rough play early on.
We ended up talking during most dead ball situations which I felt was a plus as well.
We did have a few double whistles, mostly on jump balls, but we did talk about it during a break to be mindful about trying to avoid those.
Just two games in my officiating career and I had my first T (for delay of game). Both teams had received warnings earlier, so it was a routine call that needed to be made.
We also had to send a player out for wearing earrings. I was kind of hoping she'd take off her ears and come back to play.
Coaching moment du jour: I had a 5 second closely guarded violation on the visiting team. Coaching staff was arguing defender must be within 3 feet (Not true in NFHS).
I thought I did a lot better today with off-ball officiating and not ball-watching. My judgement seemed a bit better but I still have room for improvement.
I've got a freshman/JV boys doubleheader next week. That should be a fun challenge.
