That sounds about right. You did not seek to overturn your partner's decision. You provided information to your partner and let him change his own call. That is acceptable.
Be wary of the partner who insists he knows the rule but doesn't, or insists that something that didn't happen did. You can do nothing with him, much less overrule one of his calls.
As Warren notes above, any rescue has to come before the hole is too deep.
