Did the league really expect former veteran officials to train scabs?
Conversely, did these guys think their bosses were going to let them hang around after they declined to train the replacement refs? Once you move up into management, you aren't just "one of the guys" anymore.

Its a bad deal all the way around but thus goes labor disputes. After the players wound up with the deal they got, the League was going to play hardball with them. Sure, the media will pick out every little detail if replacement officials are used but they do that anyway.

In the end, we are all expendable. The players will play, the coaches will coach, and the League will tell them to keep their mouth shut about the officiating. A deal will get worked out after a week or two and all will get back to normal. The NFLRA will get some support from media but fans and players really won't give a rats rear end.
