Even with the non-AAU connected camps, the teams/players are paying someone to be there. It really isn't any different. The only thing that changes is who is making the money.

Organizing the whole thing is a lot of work and you really can't expect people to put it on for free (as some others on here have implied in other threads). They have a to pay a lot of people to make it all work. The fact that they collect money from all participants doesn't change that.

For a camp that I evaluate at, the team side is run by a local coach for HS varsity teams. They pay for officials for all the games but are given a small discount since the officials they get from the camp are often not as experienced as what they normally see. The officials also pay a small amount.

Where does the money go? Expenses......evaluators, organizers, after-game socials, camp shirt, video expenses, etc. It adds up fast. I know the guys that run it don't make much but they'd lose money if they didn't take the money from both the teams and the campers.
