2 13-15 year old games on Saturday, once again paired with a partner that I assumed was one of the better umps, all I ever see him scheduled for are the top 2 age groups. First game, he has the plate. Batter hits the ball down into the batters box, and it then rolls fair. Partner calls foul ball, I assume it hit her on the foot. Between innings, the coach is asking why he called it foul, and I overhear my partner tell him, "It was fould because it hit the ground in foul territory first". Oook.
2nd game, I have the plate. Visitors up by 10 and at bat. We have a 15 after 5 rule. R1 on 1st, batter hits one to the fence. Partner never moves from B. I stay at the plate for a play there, see the runner touch home, look up to watch the action at 3rd, and the 3rd baseman plays it perfectly, catches the ball, drops to a knee to block the bag, and applies the tag. From B I hear "SAFE!!". Collective groan from the crowd.
I call time and go talk to him quietly, tell him that she never touched the base. He says he won't change his call because he wants the visitors to get their 5 runs to end the game early.
I'm dumbfounded.
