I know I will catch a lot of heat on this one, but it happened so will post it.
ASA tournament, meaningless. Just playing. One hour time limit, finish batter. The
home team coach has spent half of the first 55 minutes questioning calls and want-
ing the umpires to "Watch their runner on 2B she's leaving early." Blue, don't you
think we had OBS?" "Come on blue, check with your partner on that checked swing [a
called strike. Pitch in the zone.], she did not go." "Their pitcher is
illegal."
I am on bases, Home team batting to finish game, R1 on 1B, 1 out, B3 batting. R1
attempts to steal is out on a close play. I know the coach is coming, so I
clean the bag awaiting is arrival. "Blue, how can you call my runner out on that?"
I see the big scoreboard clock, hmmmm, under 58 minutes. "Coach if I
show you, will you take the result of the play?" "Yes." So I step back into as
close the same position I was in and give him my big overhand out sell, and
hollar, "OUT". Took my time until clock was at 01, then look at and
inform Coach that is three outs and the game is over. When I left the field, he
was still standing at 2B wondering what had happened.
I agree, I deprived one young lady from an at bat, but the score at this time was
visitors 11 Home 0. This was also a no protest tournament.
