VHSL holds 2 camps, one a teaching camp for newer officials and one an evaluation camp to identify officials for future state tournament assignments.
Campers for the evaluation camp have to be recommended by their commissioner. Anyone who has not previously worked in the state tournament is supposed to attend the evaluation camp before they can become eligible. However there are certain individuals whose recommendations carry enough weight that an official can get a state assignment without attending the camp.
It is my understanding that once you work in the VHSL state tournament that you are eligible for future state assignments and would not be eligible or required to attend the evaluation camp.
This is the 4th year of the evaluation camp, the first one was held in 2009.
Who was the observer for your game Saturday? I know you said you would be at Kaplan. (send me a PM)
