Lots to learn
There are many here who can help you. The best thing to do is to read through many of the threads on here. They have a lot of really good information and suggestions.
I was a new umpire last year. The one thing that helped me the most was to slow down. When you are done slowing down, slow down some more. Timing is very, very important. After my first game this year, I realized how much I have improved over last year. There were several plays where balls just miraculously rolled away on the ground that I would have called "out" on last year and then had to reverse myself. Timing is very, very important. (Did I repeat myself?)
Some people think that it's better that kids didn't play ball than to have a volunteer umpire. So, if you volunteer, ignore them. If you don't, ignore them anyway.
