I guess I can see how the T could be fooled by this -- when the player dribbles and it comes up to his hand, it sure looks like everything is in the frontcourt -- from 30 feet away. Of course, he should've been mindful that the player was dribbling and that he needed to see where the ball itself was striking the court during the dribble.
It's one of those calls that nobody *live* probably thought was incorrect -- it's only officials that know the rule and after replays are shown where someone will say, "wait a minute...."
I'll give credit to the announcer. IMO, he knows this was likely not a correct call but he didn't spend 30 minutes ripping the officials over it.
