#6(?) ranking in the country, #5 ranking in the region, there seems to be a bit of a crack. Somebody knowledgeable have an opinion?
From a chat with the chairwoman of the selection committee at http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=3224:

Lee (Toledo, OH): How does the 6th ranked team in the country, Louisiana Tech, 29-2, only get a 5 seed in the West region? They should be at least a 3 seed if not higher.

Cheryl Marra: One thing that is important to note, your SOS is very significant. La. Tech did not have a particulary strong SOS to compliment their win/loss record. That was taken into consideration by the committee. That had a lot to do with the non-conference scheduling.

And also of interest:

Fahrunnisa (Los Olivos, CA): Why is UCSB seeded so low (7) when they're number 17 in both AP and ESPN polls?

Cheryl Marra: I think you need to remember that we don't use polls. We do look at SOS and win/loss records and significant wins. We don't look at polls when we make our decision.

SOS = strength of schedule
