Which is the day that I retire from officiating. Once, for fun, I tried to work without a lanyard in a recreation level game. I probably spit my whistle out five times in the first period. I got tired of picking it off the floor. During the intermission between the first and second period, I got my lanyard out of my equipment bag. That was the first, and last, time, that I ever did that.

P.S. I recently purchased a pink lanyard to use with my pink whistle when we do the IAABO "Officials Versus Cancer" campaign, to be held this season January 23 – 29, 2012. Here, in my little corner of Connecticut, we are encouraged to donate 25% of a game fee to the American Cancer Society.
