Every state has its own rules, too, about what can be done. Some don't allow inter-squad scrimmages, some don't allow keeping time and/or score, and others can essentially play games against other teams.

It's pretty much wide open here, and high schools don't normally play. Our association views it as preparation for us just like the kids. We're expected to do a couple as our schedules allow, and while there is no formal requirement, it is often viewed as a good thing to do for your assignor. Especially if you are newer.
