OK, I always figured it was a throw that caused a collision rule to be necessary. In other words, that the throw causes the fielder to move into the runner's path or to the opposite side of the base. There seemed no point in calling a throw errant except to define the application of a rule. I don't know if I can make myself have a no-call if the throw pulls the fielder into the runner's path and she still can't catch it.
