According to Fed interpretation (unless they have changed and didn't mention it in the clinics) is that when a batter receives a pass, they can be ruled out if not within the confines of the three foot lane if they interfere with the catcher's throw to 1B.
Unless intentional, I think it is an absurd ruling. There is no imminent play at 1B, so if the catcher chooses to throw down there instead of back to the pitcher, they should be doing so at their own peril.
