3-Man Mechanics
There are 5 possible situations for rotation of plate umpire to 3rd on a batted ball that leaves the infield. However, is the possible rotation restricted to just a batted ball?
(1) Would there be a rotation with runner on 1st only and a pick-off atempt by F1 (or F2) is overthrown, and the ball bounds into right field foul territory and the runner tries to stretch it to 3rd? OR...
(2) with R1, 2 outs, the batter runs to first on an uncaught 3rd strike, F2 overthrows F3 and the ball bounds way up into RF foul territory allowing R1 to stretch his run all the way to 3rd.
In both of these situations, because they do not involve a batted ball going into the outfield, I as U3 in the C position have picked up R1 and followed him to 3rd. I think this is the standard mechanic.
However, I as U3 recently had one of these situations arise and as I moved into the cutout at 3rd, I found the PU at third insisting it was a standard rotation. Do any of you D1 umpires have these as standard rotations in 3-Man?
