thread of gen'l officiating interest

We're trying to put this in a form that doesn't draw a lot of junk posts. Seems there may be a problem with that in posts containing links, so I've been advised to try it this way.

At Volokh dot com, a group blog-and-comment site mostly about law, there's a series this week about whether variation in officiating by being more lax toward the end of contests occurs, whether it's a good or bad thing, and how to "fix" it in either case. I'm afraid if I post the links to the exact threads, it'll draw the spam again, so you'll just have to hunt for them yourself. The guest blogger and the commenters have referred to tennis, baseball, basketball, American football, soccer, rugby, and darts (at least).
