I can't comment on what to believe because I have only done basketball (boys' and girls') and boys' baseball at the national level, BUT, I can give you this one piece of advice if you are working a girls' game:
MAKE SURE YOUR ZIPPER IS PULLED UP BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE DRESSING ROOM!
And enjoy yourself.
